The Annual Hilldale Fair

Each year in May, we run the Hilldale Fair in the Hilldale Playing Field.

The 2018 Fair was on Saturday 12th May.

Disasters apart, there will be a Hilldale Fair on 11th May 2019 so put that in your diary!

Stalls:  if you'd like to take a stall, we will start to take bookings for stalls in early 2019. If you would like us to contact you when the booking form is available email us at stalls@hilldale-ca.org or send a message through our Contacts page.

Volunteers wanted
Please think about helping at the Fair.  With a few more helping hands we could do so much more.  We could have some more stalls - perhaps Wellie wanging or Hoop-la, stocks, skittles, treasure hunt ; we could have sports; we could do lots of things but we need your help.

The main event of the afternoon was the Crowning of Nell Dickinson, our Rose Queen, by Councillor May Blake, our Guest of Honour, who also opened the Fair.

We started with the Rose Queen's parade around the Playing Field. She walked around the Field followed by her attendants and the Marching Band.  She was then crowned by Councillor Blake.

The Programme for the day was:

  • 1:00 pm  - Registration for  The Fun Dog Show starts so arrive in time to register
  • 1:00 pm - The Rose Queen's Parade around the Hilldale Playing Field led by the Red Rose Brass Band.
  • 1:15 pm - Crowning of the Rose Queen
  • 1:30 pm - Opening of the Fair
  • 4:00 pm - the famous Hilldale Fair Raffle
As well as the Red Rose Brass Band we were also entertained by the Mucky Mountain Morris Dancers.

We had lots of stalls ranging from cakes to tombola - all good fun.

Then there was the Bouncy Castle [children only I'm afraid], Aquablast, Kiddie Rides, donkeys and other amusements.

In the Village Hall we served wonderful Cream Teas and in the carpark there was the BBQ - burgers, sausages etc.  All of the food is sourced locally and is really good.

The Hilldale Fun Dog Show is always a popular event and our thanks to Sarah Ashcroft who arranges it all.

Watch out for further announcements in the Newsletters and this website.
